TAAT Soybean Compact

The TAAT Soybean Compact is a component of the African Development Bank’s Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, aimed at boosting soybean production, productivity, and income across Africa. It delivers high-yielding, climate-resilient seed varieties and improved agricultural technologies to smallholder farmers and young agripreneurs, aiming to enhance nutrition and economic opportunities by 2026.
Key Aspects of the TAAT Soybean Compact:
  • Goal: To unlock Africa’s soybean potential by rapidly disseminating proven technologies.
  • Technologies Deployed: Provides improved, climate-resilient soybean varieties (e.g., Maksoy 3N and 6N), inoculants such as Nodumax and Rhizobia, and training on best agronomic practices like optimal spacing.
  • Capacity Building: Conducts hands-on training for farmers and youths on soybean production, processing, and post-harvest loss reduction.
  • Key Partners: Led by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and collaborates with National Agricultural Research and Extension Services (NARES) to ensure quality seed systems.
  • Impact: Focuses on increasing yield per hectare to enhance food security and strengthen the soybean value chain.
The compact specifically aims to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and young entrepreneurs by providing tools for high-yield farming and value addition.
