The High Iron Beans Compact of Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) is holding a review and planning meeting in Nairobi, Kenya from the 26th to the 27th of September 2019.
The meeting is organised as a follow up to the awareness creation activities on the High Iron Beans (HIB) in Kenya jointly led by Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), Cereal Growers Association (CGA) and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT).
The awareness creation activities which held in collaboration with several partners, ran from November 2018 to July 2019, with very exciting results and experiences.
The theme for the review and planning meeting is: “Transformation of Bean Business in Kenya with High Iron Beans” while the objectives include sharing the results and experiences of awareness creation of high iron beans; establishing the level of partnership (public and private sectors) for HIB along the bean value chain and how it can be enhanced and; planning activities for the 2019/2020 seasons.

Sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB), Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) is a flagship program of the bank’s Feed Africa Initiative.
The main objective of the program is to improve the business of agriculture across Africa by raising agricultural productivity, mitigating risks and promoting diversification and processing in 18 agricultural value chains within eight Priority Intervention Areas (PIA) including High Iron Beans.
TAAT High Beans Compact contributes to the AfDB’s Feed Africa initiative by catalyzing among others, the wide scale dissemination of Iron and Zinc rich beans.
In Kenya, TAAT is being implemented through a collaboration between the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), the Cereal Growers Association (CGA), county governments, private sector and development agencies.
