East Africa: TAAT Strengthens Partnerships for Food Systems Transformation

With sight set on facilitating food systems transformation across East Africa, Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) has stepped efforts at strengthening its extensive partnership across the sub-region.
In Kenya, TAAT engaged with the African Development Bank Group, the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), and Kuza to explore using KALRO/Kuza’s Digital Public Infrastructure technology in AfDB projects, enhancing digital solutions for agricultural transformation. Again, TAAT engaged with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development on value chain development, working toward a seed roadmap for key commodities—including maize, rice, wheat, high-iron beans, soybean, sunflower, and vegetables—to enhance food security and create jobs.
A meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of South Sudan, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), TAAT Maize Compact led by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), and TAAT Sorghum and Millet Compact, led by International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Compacts, along with private sector partners, focused on providing technical support for the Resilient Agricultural Livelihoods Project (RALP) and Strengthening Emergency Preparedness and Response to Food Crisis (SEPAREF). Discussions covered adaptive research, seed multiplication, and training.
In Tanzania, TAAT contributed to the Agricultural Inputs Support Project and the Food Systems Resilience Program through training on maize and wheat production and establishing innovation platforms. In collaboration with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the Ministry of Agriculture of Tanzania, the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) and private seed companies, five innovation platforms were created, and ten existing ones were strengthened and linked to ongoing projects.
Additionally, TAAT met with the Global Center on Adaptation to support implementing climate-smart agricultural projects in Tanzania, South Sudan, and Mozambique.
